About Study Course
Objective
To develop students' understanding of the nature and basic concepts, forms and functions of law, the peculiarities of the Latvian legal system and the field of legal science, the legal status of a sports educator (coach), legal relations in the work of a sports educator (coach), as well as to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and competences in professional ethics, including codes of ethics, as well as to practice respectful and fair attitude in communication.

1.Explains the structure and basic issues of the legal system of Latvia.

Students prepare a report on the legal issues of the chosen professional qualification in groups or individually according to the directions offered by the teaching staff. When preparing the report, the student finds and analyzes a relevant court decision according to the lecturer's instructions. Evaluation criteria: 1) Relevance of the chosen topic to the field of pedagogy; 2) Clarity of presentation; 3) Soundness and topicality of conclusions; 4) Design of the report. |

Ethical and legal aspects of sports professionals |

Present legal, ethical aspects of professional activity in the chosen qualification. Demonstrating the acquired skills. The student prepares an individual presentation on legal and ethical issues of the chosen professional qualification according to the directions offered by the lecturer. In preparing the presentation, the student finds and analyzes a relevant scientific article or research on the specific topic. The presentation is submitted in the e-environment and presented to the group in one of the last seminars. Evaluation criteria: 1) Theoretical substantiation; 2) Relevance of the research and the proposed solutions; 3) Soundness of the conclusions; 4) Presentation |

During the seminar, students work in groups, analyzing the legislation and regulatory documents, guidelines for sports specialists and various problem situations tasks indicated by the lecturer. Assessment criteria: 1) participates in the discussion, connects theory with the practical ethical aspect, can argue his/her opinion by analyzing ethical codes and the importance of ethical values in professional work; 2) participates in the discussion, connects theory with the practical ethical aspect, can argue his/her opinion, carry out critical self-analysis, analytically assessing various conflict situations in an ethical aspect. |

At the end of the study course, students take a theoretical examination on the topics of the study course. The examination consists of 10 multiple-choice and open-type (essay) questions. For each question, you can get 1 point, 0.5 points for definitions related to the question, 0.5 for an in-depth explanation or example. The maximum number of points is 10, the minimum is 4 points. The examination is taken in person in writing, but the student is admitted to it if all other coursework in the study course has been completed successfully. |
