About Study Course

Objective

Aim of the study program is to introduce students with the role of forensic medicine in medical practice and crimes against human investigation, types and tasks of forensic medical examination, issues to be solved in the process of examination of living persons and corpses, applied methodology

Preliminary Knowledge

Human anatomy, histology, pathology, physics, chemistry, traumatology.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students acquire basic knowledge about the consequences of various types of traumatic and toxic factors on the human body and their diagnosis, about the types of non-violent and violent death, the possibilities of their investigation; the regulatory framework binding on forensic medicine.

Skills

1.Identify and describe in the medical records various types of injuries in the forensic aspect; if necessary, to prepare a Medical Certificate of death.

Competences

1.Apply the acquired knowledge and skills in medical practice for the recognition of physical violence against people and the timely involvement of law enforcement agencies and the subsequent determination of forensic medical examination, as well as to recognize the risks of medical errors and malpractice.

The 1st class: 1) Introduction to specialty (objectives, methods, forensic expertise, including examinations if there is a suspicion regarding improper performance of professional duties of medical practitioners; binding regulatory enactments; 2) Forensic medical examination of living persons (indications, issues to be addressed in examinations; types of bodily injuries, their descriptions and assessment of severity; principles of preparation of expert opinion documentation).

The 2nd class: 1) General thanatology: signs of the corpse and medical assessment of their forensics, including determination of the time of death, examination of the corpse at the scene; types of death - non-violent and violent death; 2) Forensic medical examination of deceased persons (indications, issues to be resolved in examination, principles of preparation of documentation - expert opinion and medical certificate on the cause of death).
