About Study Course

Objective

To develop a comprehensive understanding of winter sports for students – cross-country skiing and hockey, as well as the principles of camp organisation, by learning their theoretical and practical aspects. Provide in-depth knowledge and professional skills in cross-country skiing modes, in the technique and methodology of hockey games, as well as in the efficient planning and management of winter activities for students of different ages and genders, promoting student motivation and involvement in winter events.

Preliminary Knowledge

Knowledge of the professional bachelor’s program’s general education courses in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd academic years, covering the theoretical and practical fundamentals of the field.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.1. Lists ski sports and cross-country ski movements, their main activities and names in Latvian and English. 2. Explain the conditions for selecting and preparing a ski area for teaching types of movement, organising ski events, observing the basic principles of safe operation, ethics and interdisciplinarity, including anatomy, physiology, biomechanics. 3. Justify the conditions for the selection of ski equipment in accordance with the basic principles of biomechanics, the preparation thereof for classes, the practice of maintenance and storage of the inventory. 4. Adapt the methodology for teaching and physical fitness of cross-country skiing to work with a contingent of different ages and genders, taking into account the legalities of exercise theory, psychology and physiology. 5. Explains the benefits of cross-country skiing interdisciplinary in increasing physical fitness and promoting health with examples, physiology, psychology, biomechanics. 6. Recognizes gestures of a hockey referee in accordance with the rules of hockey. 7. Knows and abides by the rules of skating and hockey safety. 8. Basic skating techniques and basic techniques shall be used and terminology in Latvian and English shall be accounted for. 9. Describe the plan of training activities for ice skating and/or ice hockey techniques, taking into account psychological and physiological aspects for the age concerned. 10. Discusses the role of camp in the formation and comprehensive development of human personality, following an interdisciplinary approach in psychological, physiological and pedagogical aspects. 11. Explains the principles of building the contents of the camps in accordance with the Cabinet regulations of the Republic of Latvia - legal aspects. 11. The procedures for organising and operating child camps in Latvia, the movement, history and development of camps shall be described. 13. Name the types of camps, the stages of the camp organisation and describe the specifics and content creation in both Latvian and English.

Skills

1.1. Demonstrate the types of ski travel by being able to explain movement elements in Latvian and English languages and determine the efficiency of their application according to the terrain of the environment and climatic conditions. 2. Detect inaccuracies in the mode of movement in the performance and apply exercises and/or environmental terrain to prevent them. 3. Prepare the ski equipment according to the ski style and climatic conditions. 4. Pedagogical competences shall be applied in planning and conducting of ski classes, outdoor winter activities, observation and evaluation, observing interdisciplinary competence in the context of pedagogy, psychology, physiology. 5. Demonstrates training and improvement exercises in the basic techniques of skating and hockey techniques by describing them in Latvian and English. 6. Plans training lessons for the teaching and development of contour skating and/or hockey techniques, promoting interdypilinarity with physiology, psychology, biomechanical aspects. 7. The rules of hockey shall be applied in practice (in court a practice game) using terminology in both Latvian and English languages. 8. Basic techniques of hockey techniques are practically applied. 9. Create the content of the camp by selecting the activities best suited to the purpose of the camp, the specific characteristics of age and sex and physical fitness, to create a plan of the content of the camp in conformity with the interdisciplinary regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia of Psychology, pedagogy, Physiology. 10. Construct camp projects by defining appropriate objectives, setting tasks and selecting appropriate methods for the implementation of the project, which have been acquired and applied in psychology, pedagogy and didactic study courses. 11. Knows how to work as a team in organizing camps and implementing camp content.

Competences

1.1. In their professional activities, they are able to evaluate and use skiing as a means of promoting physical fitness and health by understanding the dynamics of physiological, psychological changes. 2. Able to demonstrate appropriate methodology in the pedagogical and psychological aspects, and I understand the role of ski and outdoor winter activities. 3. Able to take, justify decisions and perform professional duties in the management and organisation of ski classes and winter events on skis, taking into account interdisciplinarity, including in the organisation of activities. 5. Able to present communicative skills in both Latvian and English languages as well as in the team and practice. 6. Perform innovative professional and research activities in the teaching and benefits of skiing in primary school, general educational schools and residents in the promotion and promotion of physical activity and health, promoting biomechanical, physiological, pedagogical, didactic and psychological principles. 7. Theoretical knowledge is able to be implemented in practice by independently selecting exercises appropriate for teaching and improvement, to determine the dosage of performance and the appropriate methodology, derived from the foundations of sports theory. 8. To carry out the form and content of a sports lesson in accordance with the basic principles of safety technology. 9. Able to develop criteria and test methods for evaluating the growth of learners, taking into account the pedagogical approach to evaluating innovation. 10. Expertly analyse and evaluate the extracted camp content and the impact of activities on the overall development of personality. 11. Knowledge of the binding legislation for the organisation of camps. 12. Draft camps shall be developed and presented, describing the stages of construction and implementation thereof, taking into account the basic pedagogical and psychological principles.

During the course, students study literature independently in both Latvian and English languages, prepare for theoretical and practical tests and practical tasks. Using digital solutions, video filming and technical analysis of skiing modes with video analysis software shall be performed. Based on the results of the technical analysis, exercises to address deficiencies shall be developed in accordance with basic biomechanical principles.

Skiing - practical tests

Demonstration of practical steps and movement styles using terminology in both Latvian and English languages. Participation in competitions and/or ski touring according to the pedagogical, psychological and physiological aspects. Training practice respecting the observance of didactic techniques and psychological aspects.

Hockey - the practical test

Test

Performance of practical tests in hockey with terminology in Latvian and English simultaneously performing a technical demonstration on ice. Hockey game under simplified conditions. Training practices taking into account didactic, psychological, physiological aspects.

Camp training - project presentations, organisation of events, morning rustles, posters - wall newspapers, etc.
