About Study Course
Objective
To acquire qualitative basic knowledge about the physiology of normal swallowing, physiology, etiology and clinical manifestations of swallowing disorders. Gain evidence-based theoretical knowledge and practical skills in diagnosing swallowing disorders (dysphagia), setting goals and tactics for treatment (based on comprehensive assessment of dysphagia and using ICF principles) for children and adults.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.As a result of successful acquisition of the study course, students: • strongly describe the course of normal swallowing physiology in adults / sucking and swallowing physiology in children; • will be able to explain the etiology and pathogenesis of swallowing disorders in adults and children; • will be able to name the types of classification of dysphagia; • will be able to present and orientate in the possibilities of cognition of swallowing disorders in adults and children; • will be able to describe the clinical manifestations, complications and functional limitations of dysphagia (using the ICF framework) in adults and children; • will be able to explain, analyze and apply appropriate treatment tactics.
Skills
1.As a result of successful acquisition of the study course, students: • will be able to evaluate the clinical signs of dysphagia in adults and children; • will be able to assess swallowing disorders using different assessment methods for adults; • will be able to assess sucking and swallowing disorders using different assessment methods for children; • will be able to evaluate the structures of the oral cavity and perform motor performance evaluation. To perform sensory evaluation in the oral cavity, evaluation of swallowing reflexes; • will be able to set evaluation and ICF-based treatment goals for adults and children; • will be able to plan treatment for dysphagia in adults and children.
Competences
1.As a result of successful completion of the study course, students will be able to theoretically explain and practically use the acquired knowledge about the normal swallowing process, dysphagia and, applying skills, evaluate, plan and perform swallowing disorders for adults and children within the audiologist's competence.
