About Study Course
Objective
Provide medical residents with in-depth knowledge and practical skills in laboratory medicine, with a particular focus on clinical biochemistry, haematology, immunology, microbiology, immunohaematology and transplantation immunology; develop clinical thinking capabilities in the context of laboratory diagnostics and promote laboratory and physician collaboration, especially in the context of transplant examinations, immunosuppression monitoring and infection control.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.- basic principles of laboratory examinations: biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, immunohematology - major studies in transplant patients: HLA, DSA, infection diagnosis, immunosuppression monitoring. Basic principles, meaning of examinations. - Preanalytical, analytical and postanalytic steps and their effect on results - principles of laboratory quality control, standards requirements and accreditation process. - Laboratory information systems (LIS) and their connection to the hospital IT environment.
Skills
1.- interpret biochemical, haematological, immunological and microbiological data. - evaluate laboratory results in the context of transplantation: monitoring of recipient examinations, compatibility, post-transplantation - recognize false or inconsistent results
Competences
1.- understand the effects of preanalytical, analytical and postanalytic phases on laboratory results. - is able to evaluate the quality and relevance of laboratory examinations in a particular patient’s case - able to engage in clinical decision-making in the management of transplant patients based on laboratory data.
