About Study Course

Objective

To promote the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, experience and practical skills in the aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and course of infectious diseases in children.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.During the time allocated for the study course, the resident will: - recognise the most common paediatric infectious diseases; - know their aetiology and pathogenesis; - be familiar with the clinical manifestations of paediatric infectious diseases, principles of diagnostic algorithms and therapy principles.

Skills

1.The resident will be able to: - prescribe screening tests for specific laboratory diagnosis and differential diagnosis of infectious diseases in children; - interpret the results obtained; - make a diagnosis.

Competences

1.Using the acquired knowledge and skills, the resident will be able to perform highly qualified and specialised diagnosis, treatment and prevention of acute and chronic infectious diseases, recognise and differentiate infectious diseases from other pathologies.

During the course of study, the resident doctor must independently learn: - theoretical knowledge of the most common paediatric infectious diseases and immune system diseases, their aetiology, pathogenesis, early diagnosis, emergency care; - practical skills and methods used for the diagnosis of paediatric infectious diseases and immune system diseases, their indications and interpretation of the results.

Knowledge is tested in seminars and during practical classes (clinical case analysis, clinical case tasks, action algorithms). Theoretical knowledge is tested in writing and assessed on a 10-point grading scale.

Epidemiology, clinic, principles of treatment and prevention of infectious diseases in children (measles, rubella, whooping cough, mumps, etc.). Differential diagnosis of these diseases. Development of intestinal infectious diseases (shigellosis, salmonellosis, Escherichia coli infections, rotaviruses, etc.) in children of different ages and related treatment issues.
