About Study Course

Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in sports medicine according to the requirements of sport medicine physicians’ specialty.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Knowledge of sports medicine as a multidisciplinary field of medicine. Theoretical and practical knowledge about individual risks and benefits gained from physical activity, individually adjusted physical load, body changes caused by age, physical activity of seniors, load regimes, rehabilitation and physical activity restrictions.

Skills

1.Ability to reasonably select the most suitable examination methods in case of diseases or injuries, assess results of examinations and capacity for work, prepare a treatment plan, set up evacuation procedure of an injured athlete during competition and mass sporting events, awareness on the measures to be taken in emergency situations at the prehospital stage, as well as ability to provide medical care during a sports event.

Theoretical knowledge is acquired in 12 seminars and individual literature studies. During practical classes students control patients under the supervision of a physician eligible to provide such training, participate in examination and treatment of a patient by mastering patient examination, as well as diagnostics and medical manipulations. A medical resident acquires different diagnostic methods of sports medicine and methodology of manipulations and invasive and non-invasive medical technologies also applied in sports medicine physician’s practice.

At the end of the study course the head of the residency programme evaluates the acquired theoretical knowledge in written and oral form. The written test shall be assessed according to the 10-point grading system.
