About Study Course

Objective

Learn the basics of the Latvian sign language, the ability to communicate with deaf people about everyday topics and to gain an understanding of deaf culture.

Preliminary Knowledge

Not required.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Basic knowledge of the Latvian sign language; an appropriate number of signs is mastered, as well as the basic knowledge of grammar of the Latvian sign language.

Skills

1.Skills to communicate with deaf people in simple situations have been mastered; the student is aware of organisations for deaf people and their activities in Latvia and in the world; the student is able to name and describe the main characteristics of deaf culture; the student is able to find and use professional information at work.

Competences

1.The student is open to deaf people who belong to another culture and speak sign language; the student demonstrates willingness to communicate with deaf people; the student shows a positive attitude towards the sign language and the sign language culture; the student follows the key rules of communication with deaf people.
