About Study Course

Objective

To ensure the acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the requirements of the regulations of the paediatric cardiology speciality to prepare a doctor for certification in the speciality of paediatric cardiology in compliance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.The study programme provides for acquisition of detailed theoretical knowledge of embryology of congenital heart diseases, aetiology of congenital and acquired diseases, pathogenesis, symptoms, differential diagnosis; for learning of indications and possibilities of conservative treatment; for acquisition of examination and diagnostic methods in cardiology, instruments and equipment used in cardiology and prevention of the cardiovascular system diseases.

Skills

1.Upon completion of the study programme, the resident understands the aetiology, pathogenesis and symptoms of heart diseases. The student has practical skills in objective examination of inpatients and outpatients. Knows how to analyse electrocardiograms and Holter monitoring results. Can manage echocardiography (transthoracic, transoesophageal and foetal) and veloergometry examination according to the description of the method.

Competences

1.Upon completion of the study programme, the student is able to independently take care of a paediatric patient of a cardiac profile at different ages, using the acquired knowledge and modern technologies.
