About Study Course

Objective

To create a general idea about the science of sports psychology and the psychological aspects of sports, to create an understanding of the emotional, cognitive and personality development of an individual at different age stages and aspects affecting development. Deepen knowledge about communication and means of communication in a professional environment. Develop skills in conversation with the client, identify the client's main problems, learn the basic skills of motivation using the principles of motivational interviewing. Recognize and understand client types and motivations for lifestyle change. Recognize the signs of conflict, assess the significance of the conflict and apply the skills to resolve it.

Preliminary Knowledge

High school level knowledge in social studies.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students describe psychology as a science and its main tasks, understand the importance of psychology in sports and working with athletes. Knows the main concepts of personality development and stages of development. Understands the importance of emotional and cognitive aspects in personality development. Understands the role of goal setting and motivation in sport. Describes the communication components that are the basis for establishing and maintaining contact with the client, recognizes and understands the client's personality types and motives for lifestyle changes. Identifies the client's main problems. Defines the signs of conflict.

Skills

1.Will be able to analyze personality development, cognitive processes, leadership and other aspects of psychology in sports and sports psychology research. Able to apply active listening, professionally lead a conversation with a client, as well as lead a motivational interview. Will be able to recognize the process of changing the client's health behavior and motivates the client to solve problems and achieve goals. Will be able to apply conflict resolution skills.

Competences

1.Students understand the connection between personality development and physical abilities, adjust communication and motivational skills according to the level of development and abilities to increase the quality of life and physical activity. Differentiates communication with different customer groups, evaluates the customer's motivation and the need to use the motivational interview. Uses active listening and motivational skills, according to the client's health behavior change process.

Students independently learn the material of video lectures and perform self-tests and tasks on the topic of the lecture, which are submitted in e-studies. Researches and analyzes scientific literature on sports psychology topics. Analyzes conflict situations in cooperation between the coach and the client, evaluates the possibilities of solving the situation. Conducts a motivational interview and draws up a plan to achieve the client's goals. Provide feedback on the study course.

Conducting a motivational interview and developing a plan to achieve the client's goals. Compose motivational interview questions and conduct an interview with a selected individual. Draw up a plan to achieve the client's goal. Prepare a description and presentation, including information: - general information about the client (age, gender, level of physical fitness, aspects of health, etc.), - the set goal for improving health and well-being, - assessment of the client's motivation, - recommendations for improving health and well-being, - evaluation of own communication and motivation skills.

Analysis of scientific research. The student searches for and selects scientific articles in the field of sports psychology using the databases available at RSU. Prepare a description and presentation, including information: - research topic and authors, - relevance and purpose of the research, - the sample of respondents and its characteristics, - used research tools and research progress, - the results and conclusions obtained in the study are analyzed based on theoretical knowledge, - analyzed personal and professional benefits.

Analysis of the conflict situation. Each student receives a description of a conflict situation, after familiarizing himself with it, prepares answers to the questions, taking into account the knowledge gained in this course. Questions: 1. What is the problem in this case? What caused this problem? 2. Who is involved in this case? 3. How can you, as a specialist, solve this case? 4. Is it necessary to involve someone else to solve it?
