About Study Course
Objective
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Knowledge of heart valve lesions, coronary heart disease and aortic lesions: diagnosis, indications for surgery, approach, types of surgery, possible complications.
Skills
1.To evaluate indications for cardiac surgery, to discuss the surgery with patient and his/her family, to be able to prepare patient for the surgery, to establish access to the heart and to connect to/wean from CPB, perform uncomplicated heart surgery.
Competences
1.To provide primary aid to patients in compliance with requirements set by legal acts of Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia, Health ministry and regulations of Cardiac Surgeons Association.

The resident creates a literature review (current literature, guidelines) on diseases and aneurysms of the thoracic aorta (ascending aorta, aortic arch, thoracic aorta). Types of aortic dissections and surgical treatment.
