About Study Course

Objective

To create an opportunity to acquire foundational knowledge on the main principles of psychological counseling and its specificity in art therapy for various client groups. To develop counseling skills with clients/patients using different interventions, methods, and techniques within the context of art therapy. To provide an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills to recognize levels of personality functioning, defense mechanisms of the psyche, and the phenomena of transference and countertransference.

Professional activity in arts therapies and its legal basis, Personality and development psychology, Neuropsychology.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Describe the principles of the establishment of therapeutic relationship with a client/patient, explain the stages of individual consultancy and psychotherapy process, name the therapeutic interventions and describe the safe therapeutic environment factors.

Skills

1.MA students are able to identify and analyse client/patient needs, difficulties and resources, and partially interpret and integrate the information collected. Students apply consultancy skills, can establish safe environment and therapeutic relationship with a client/patient (in simulation situation); set up a consent (explain MT process, rules, get informed consent). MA student provides emotional support to the client/patient, facilitates change and facilitates solutions (in simulation situations). MA students recognise the applied consultancy skills at their own and other people's work. Can recognise the level of client/patient's personality functioning, the applied defence mechanisms of psyche.

Competences

1.Students reflect on their own skills and experience, can provide the coursemates with feedback about their skills. MA students express empathic attitude towards the client/patient (coursemate), analyse the problem in detail, evaluate predictions, accepting patients' needs.

1. Independently consolidate lecture material by reading the sources indicated in e-studies (including the latest scientific researches), prepare for classes - in both semesters. 2. Conduct an initial interview with the adult, structure the information obtained, make entries in the counseling protocol, reflect on your counseling skills. Present in class. - in the 1st semester. 3. Work in a small group, assuming the roles of client, therapist and observer. A role-play demonstration of part of an art therapy session. Completing the protocol. Presentation. - in the 2nd semester. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.

In the 1st semester: 1) active participation in classes, involvement in skills training, providing feedback (passed/failed); 2) independent work: individual counseling for an adult (establishing contact, informed consent, asking about current difficulties, their expression, finding resources), structuring the obtained information in a protocol, self-reflection on one's counseling skills, short presentation (25%); 3) theoretical knowledge test (25%). In the 2nd semester: 1) active participation in classes, involvement in skills training, providing feedback (passed/failed); 2) independent work: in the small group to get used to each of the roles (therapist - client - observer), demonstrate a part of the art therapy session in the form of a role play, make notes in the protocol. Observe and analyze the observed protective mechanisms of the psyche, transference/countertransference. Short presentation about your counseling skills, self-reflection (25%); 3) theoretical knowledge test (25%).
