About Study Course

Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in paediatric surgery in accordance with the requirements of the surgery specialty regulation in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the surgeon specialty.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- knowledge of the aetiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis, differential diagnosis of congenital and acquired, acute and chronic surgical diseases, as well as injuries of the musculoskeletal system in children of different ages; - indications for conservative and surgical treatment of surgical diseases in children of different ages; - drawing up an examination and treatment plan for children with acute surgical diseases; - specifics of patient preparation for operations of various organ systems, emphasising attention paid to emergency and urgent operations in paediatric surgery, as well as basic principles of patient treatment in the pre- and post-operative period; - diagnostic methods, instruments and equipment used in paediatric surgery, as well as practical use of therapeutic methods (operations) for patients of a surgical profile; - the aetiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnostic methods, course, treatment methods of the most common diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system.

Skills

1.- to carry out primary treatment of wounds, apply sutures to wounds, learn tetanus prevention; - to carry out the scope and sequence of the complex of emergency assistance measures in case of traumatic shock, as well as burns of the body, chemical burns of the oesophagus, frostbite, electrocution, snake bites and injuries of the respiratory and digestive system; - to provide qualified emergency assistance to children of various ages with musculoskeletal injuries and acute diseases; - in cases of foreign bodies in the organs; - to perform the technique of opening soft tissue abscesses, as well as treatment of infected wounds; - to perform pleural cavity puncture and pleural drainage.

The doctor must learn about the diagnostic methods, instruments and equipment used in surgery, practical skills in diagnostic and therapeutic manipulation, as well as the practical application of therapeutic methods (surgery) in surgical patients to the extent prescribed in the programme.
