About Study Course

Objective

To develop an understanding of the course of historical development of personality theories, the current situation and the diversity of theoretical positions and their evaluation criteria. To deepen the students' knowledge about the psychology of development, the regularities of personality development at different age stages, to develop the ability to observe according to developmental criteria and to analyze personality development.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Student: is familiar with the historical evolution of personality psychology and the different interpretations of the concept of personality; understands the basic principles of the main theoretical directions (psychodynamic, humanistic, dispositional, biheivioristic, cognitive), the most important representatives, the development and criticism of their ideas; acquire basic issues of developmental psychology, the role of law and biopsychosocial factors in human development; knows the peculiarities of personality development at different stages of life – from prenatal to superannuation, including the problem of developmental and traumatic crises.

Skills

1.Student: able to analyse and compare different personality theories, identifying their strengths and weaknesses; is able to apply theoretical knowledge to understanding specific aspects of personality and development; able to analyse in a structured way the development of a particular child and the life history of an adult, linking it to theories of personality and developmental psychology; can justify the relationship between the personality development process and biopsychosocial factors and lifecycle relationships.

Competences

1.Student: able to integrate different theories of personality psychology independently, critically assessing their applicability; able to apply theoretical knowledge to the analysis of the child’s development and adult life history by linking it to biopsychosocial factors and life cycle legal relationships; is competent to formulate reasoned conclusions on personality development using academically correct reasoning and references; able to use the acquired knowledge and skills in professional and academic activities.

Independent work in the “Psychology of Development” part of the course

Make a child observation detailing their behaviour in the child’s observation diary or conducting a structured adult interview on atylement crises and analysing them in the context of developmental psychology theories and developmental features of aging; Prepare a presentation and present the results in a lesson. Include at least 2 studies (starting in 2017) on the application of art therapy to clients/patients of the relevant age stage in the presentation.

Independent work in the “Psychology of personality” part of the course

Independent work - identifying 5 mechanisms for protecting the psyche (PAM) in your life. Requirements for independent work: identify in your life and describe 5 PAM. The description should include: (a) a description of the PAM (with reference in the literature describing/defining the relevant PAM), (b) the expression/application of the PAM in the student’s life, (c) self-reflection for each PAM.

Description

The lecture will look at personality development in old age, highlighting physical, cognitive and psychosocial changes. The problem of ageing, the final phase of life, death issues and the importance of development and traumatic crises at this age stage will be analysed.
