About Study Course

Objective

The aim of the studies is to provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in planning, organising and implementing the research process by developing the ability to independently formulate the research problem, choose appropriate research methods, analyse and interpret the acquired data, as well as to correctly design and present the research results in accordance with the requirements of academic ethics.

Preliminary Knowledge

Students must have knowledge acquired in the general secondary education programme:

  • basic grammar and styling of Latvian language (texting, reasoning).
  • Basic maths (calculation of interest, arithmetic average, interpretation of graphics and tables).
  • Computer basics (computer skills, working with a text editor, spreadsheets, searching for information on the Internet).
  • Foundations of social knowledge (structure of society, social processes, human rights).
  • Basic ethical principles (honesty, responsibility, dignity, confidentiality).
  • The basics of sociology (groups of society, social behaviour, social factors affecting health).

Students should be able to

  • read, analyse and understand informative and academic texts.
  • Express your thoughts in writing in a logical and reasoned way.
  • Perform simple mathematical calculations and interpret statistical data.
  • Search and evaluate information in a digital environment.
  • Structure information into tables and simple graphs.

Students must be developed: the

  • basic competence of critical thinking.
  • Ability to assess the reliability of information and the reliability of sources.
  • Understanding ethical behaviour in a professional and societal context.
  • Understanding the impact of social factors on human health and behaviour.

Learning Outcomes
