About Study Course

Objective

The aim of the study course is to promote expanded theoretical and practical knowledge in the context of viral infections, to understand theoretical and practical deviations from stereotypical disease standards, pathogenetic variations, micro- and macro-organism relationships and impact options, approaches to modern epidemic patterns, unique methods of prevention. Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from the animal environment to the human population and its associated global health implications.

Preliminary Knowledge

Anatomy, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, pathological physiology, propaedeutics, immunology, oral diseases, radiology, pharmacology, epidemiology, laboratory medicine.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students will be able to describe the future possibilities of infections and infectious diseases, knowing the factors of natural and technological influence, possible directions of pathogenesis, the possibility to develop in the changed external environment, the impact on the individual and public health; describe and identify the specific stages of infection development; explain the causes of globalization of infections and systematize methods; formulate and explain the principles of future therapy; link the stages of the health plan to individualized health care, especially in the case of chronic infections; will explain the principles of future specific prevention, applying them to both society and the individual.

Skills

1.Students will be able to create a draft plan for medical activities aimed at diagnosing and treatment an individual's disease; will be able to analyze the drawn up plan, taking into account the presence or absence of laboratory tests and other data; will be able to evaluate other types of data obtained as a result of investigations; will be able to integrate all types of examinations into the diagnostic design of an infectious disease; to plan the measures necessary to limit the spread of the infection.

Competences

1.Students will be able to apply basic knowledge of argumentation, logic and rhetoric to analyze situations in practical infectology and situations in theoretical infectology, discuss, explain one's opinion and constructively promote the achievement of professional goals and specific tasks in ensuring individual and public health; in the face of non-standard situations, to successfully communicate in the fields of prevention, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases; to cooperate professionally with patients, patients' relatives, colleagues in an atmosphere of dignity, observing the norms of medical ethics, respecting the rights of patients and ensuring epidemiological safety; to independently learn and use the e-medicine environment for communication with students and colleagues; to demonstrate and improve oneself as a future medical practitioner and health promoter in the context of specific and non-specific prevention of infectious diseases.
