About Study Course

Objective

To promote students’ understanding of Latvian and EU cultural policy, to develop the skill of orientating oneself in the activities of various Latvian cultural institutions and regulatory enactments in the field of culture, to understand processes of cultural policy development and implementation. To look at contemporary Latvian cultural policy in the context of the cultural policy of the Council of Europe and European Union, to outline the system of intercultural communication in the Republic of Latvia.

Knowledge

1.As a result of completing the study course, students orientate themselves in the activities of various Latvian cultural institutions and regulatory enactments in the field of culture.

Skills

1.As a result of completing the study course, students understand the processes of cultural policy development and implementation. They look at contemporary Latvian cultural policy in the context of the cultural policy of the Council of Europe and European Union, outline the system of intercultural communication of the Republic of Latvia.

Competences

1.As a result of completing the course, students are able to analyse cultural policy processes in Latvia and other countries, knowing the essence of theories related to culture and cultural policy and policy and planning documents in Latvia and the EU.

Participation in seminars and independent development of the final paper – research on solutions of a problem in Latvian cultural policy – based on required literature and internet resources.
