Objective

Knowledge
1.- tumour epidemiology, trends in the world and in Latvia; - aetiology of tumours; - screening diagnosis of malignant tumours; - basic principles of tumour therapy (neoadjuvant, adjuvant) and types and results of practical application of treatment; - dispenserisation of patients and accounting principles in Latvia; - to orient oneself in case of need for emergency assistance in oncology; - possibilities and implementation of palliative therapy in oncology; - oncology patient records; - principles of medical ethics in oncology.
Skills
1.- to evaluate high-risk population groups in oncology, - to assess specific risk in the case of individual tumour localisations; - to plan the necessary examinations for screening, diagnosis and staging of various malignant tumours; - to interpret the results of clinical tests, radiological and endoscopic examinations; - to obtain tissue material for cytological and histological examination, prepare relevant accompanying documentation and evaluate the results of morphological examinations; - to perform pleural cavity and ascites puncture; - to perform a digital rectal examination and evaluate the results; - to organise the necessary help for the oncological patient in case of acute situations; - to prescribe adequate analgesic and palliative therapy in case of a tumour; - to adequately examine the patient with possible oncopathology, organize the patient’s follow-up process after radical treatment (dispenserisation) for timely diagnosis of recurrence; - to work with oncological patients and the staff of the medical institution, observing the principles of medical ethics.
Competences
1.To provide first aid and emergency qualified assistance to patients with an oncological pathology.

The doctor must learn about the diagnostic methods, instruments and equipment used in surgery, practical skills in diagnostic and therapeutic manipulation, as well as the practical application of therapeutic methods (surgery) in surgical patients to the extent prescribed in the programme.
