About Study Course

Objective

Theoretical and practical learning of enhanced diagnostics and treatment of ENT diseases, based on research proved basis. Acquire differential diagnose skills based on the interpretation of different ENT symptoms.

Preliminary Knowledge

Basic knowledge of otorhinolaryngology, pharmacology, immunology, radiology, anatomy, physiology, morphology, pathology, oncology and surgery.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students acquire in-depth knowledge of otorhinolaryngology, differential diagnosis of different ENT symptoms and syndromes; they comprehend the relation between systemic diseases and their manifestations in upper airways, hearing and balance system.

Skills

1.Students perform thorough examination of the patient with otorhinolaryngology symptoms, interpret the symptoms and describe the role of those symptoms in diagnosis of the disease. They draw up a treatment plan. Students are able to decide on the surgical and/or conservative treatment.

Competences

1.Recognise different symptoms and evaluate their role in establishing diagnosis and differential diagnosis. Assess the manifestation of systemic diseases in the upper airways, hearing and balance systems. Develop and implement the examination and treatment plan for patients with different ENT diseases.

The student prepares for the classes by revising theoretical knowledge from the general Otorhinolaryngology course. For the last class, the student must prepare a presentation (max. 10 slides) about the most interesting patient he/she has had during the whole study course in any of the clinical basis. The presentation must include basic patient data, anamnesis, diagnosis, examination and treatment plan, differential diagnosis and the theoretical background for examination and treatment plan.

Examination

1)During each practical class, each student is evaluated individually with a mark in a 10-grade system according to student’s involvement and activity during the class and the knowledge that he/she demonstrate. Criteria: • Student arrived on time for the class, • Student is in appropriate attire (white coat, change of shoes), • Student actively participates in the discussion, patient examination and/or analysis of clinical case, correctly answers teacher’s questions and is able to defend ones opinion. 2) On the last 8th semester's practical class student presents an individually prepared clinical case presentation about a case seen during the course. Student must be able to explain his/her diagnostic and treatment plan, defend ones opinion (evaluated with a mark using 10 point scale). Final grade: At the end of each semester and at the end of the whole course, each student receives a mark in a 10-grade scale. 1. Final grade at the end of 7th semester consists of mean mark of the individual evaluations during practical classes. 2. Final grade at the end of 8th semester consists of mean mark of the individual evaluations during practical classes. 3. Final grade for the whole course consists of the 7th semester and 8th semester final grade and clinical case presentation grade (accordingly 25%, 25% and 50%).
