About Study Course

Objective

The aim of the study course is to provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills regarding the specific aspects of child development at different ages, as well as an understanding of pediatric patient assessment, therapy planning, and application in accordance with the individual needs and developmental characteristics of the child.

Preliminary Knowledge

Anatomy, motor control, basics of physiotherapy, functional assessment and treatment in physiotherapy.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Understands the patterns and differences of child development at various ages, including aspects of motor, sensorimotor, and cognitive development.

2.Will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the most common health conditions affecting functioning in childhood.

3.Understands the principles of physiotherapy and intervention strategies for children with various developmental, orthopedic, neurological, and other health conditions.

4.Is familiar with assessment methods and tools that evaluate aspects of a child's motor development.

5.Understands the impact of assistive devices on the restoration of a child's functional abilities and quality of daily life.

Skills

1.Is able to perform functional assessment of pediatric patients, selecting appropriate methods according to the child's age and condition.

2.Is able to develop an individualized physiotherapy plan for a child, based on assessment results and established therapeutic goals.

3.Applies safe physiotherapy techniques appropriate to the child's age and developmental stage in treatment.

4.Promotes the child's participation in therapy through collaboration with parents and other healthcare professionals.

Competences

1.Is capable of independently making decisions and applying acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills to support functioning in children.

-
  1. Before each class, the student must review the previously learned material related to the topic of the lesson and study the theoretical content available in the e-studies system.
  2. To evaluate the overall quality of the study course, the student must complete the course evaluation questionnaire in the Student Portal.

Examination

The knowledge of theoretical concepts is regularly assessed during classes (through short tests or orally), and the acquisition of practical skills is also evaluated.

2.

Presentation of independent work

10.00% from total grade
Test

A presentation on a randomly assigned health or functional disorder, including its characteristics, etiology, pathogenesis, general treatment principles, and physiotherapy approaches.

3.

Exam

90.00% from total grade
10 points

The exam consists of two parts. The first part is a multiple-choice test assessing knowledge of theoretical concepts. The second part involves the analysis and presentation of a clinical case, demonstrating understanding of pediatric patient assessment, identification of functional problems and therapy goals, and development of a treatment plan. Detailed assessment criteria are described in the e-learning system.
