About Study Course

Objective

To ensure possibility to master knowledge on the intense therapy principles, methods and manipulations in order to ensure the vital functions of crucially sick adult in the prehospital and hospital Admission Department’s phase.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Student will know how to: 1. To recognize the symptoms and syndromes dangerous for life in disease and trauma cases. 2. To evaluate the methods of diagnostics and treatment applicable in the intense therapy. 3. To interpret clinically – biochemical hypoxia indices, analyse the methods of their determination. 4. Define the operational principles of the artificial pulmonatory ventilation devices. 5. To formulate the indications of hemodyalisis, hemofiltration, hemosorbtion and hyperbaric oxygenation. 6. To enumerate the indications of emergency pericardiocentesis and tell the technique. 7. To name the indications of the esophageal veins’ balloon tamponade and tell the technique. 8. To characterize the principles of antibacterial therapy. 9. To evaluate the methods, indications and technique of therapeutic hypothermia. 10. To formulate the indications, technique of blood transfusion.

Skills

1.In the first year (8 weeks, not less than 1/3 of the required number of manipulations) in the Reanimation and Intense Therapy Department under a constant supervision: 1. To identify the symptoms and syndromes dangerous for life in disease and trauma cases. 2. To formulate indications and contraindications for placing the patient in the Intense Therapy Department. 3. To analyse and correct clinically – biochemical hypoxia indices. 4. To examine and monitor intense therapy patients, applying noninvasive and within the bounds of possibilities also the invasive methods. 5. To cathetetrize the central and peripheral veins. 6. To apply perfusors. 7. To apply noninvasive and invasive artificial pulmonary ventilation methods using the ventilation bag and artificial pulmonary ventilation devices, including the portable ones. 8. To insert the pleural drainage, evaluate its functioning. 9. To interpret the data of laboratory examinations. 10. To apply O2 inhalation methods. 11. To provide care for a patient’s airways, including for patients with tracheostomy. 12. To interpret the disturbances of water – electrolytes and acids – alcali balance and make corrections. 13. To diagnosticate the insufficiency and septic conditions of multiple organs. 14. To apply the resuscitation activities according to ACLS algorithms. 15. To make treatment and examination plan for IT patients with neurological and neurosurgical pathology, abdominal pathology and pulmonary pathology, including for operated patients, patients with endocrine pathology, cardiac pathology.

Competences

1.Student will be able to make and realize independently the treatment plan in the conditions crucial for health and life in the Intense Therapy and Reanimation Department and in prehospital and hospital Admission Department’s phase.
