About Study Course

Objective

The purpose of the scientific research work: To promote the resident's ability to contribute to the development of evidence-based medicine, as the resident develops practical skills in the development of scientific work - expanding and systematizing theoretical knowledge and acquiring the ability to apply it in researching the chosen topic, formulating problems and developing reasonable conclusions and proposals. The purpose of the state examination of the residency: to assess the knowledge, skills and competences acquired during the resident's studies for the award of qualifications and further obtaining a certificate in the specialty.

Preliminary Knowledge

Completed study courses, in accordance with the program and in the Resident's book, received a record of admission to take the state exam.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.In scientific research work: Deepened and strengthened: • theoretical knowledge of the chosen topic • knowledge of research development – defining the research plan, determining work goals, hypotheses and tasks, research methods, data acquisition and processing methods. In the test of the country of residence: • knows and understands the theoretical and practical issues necessary for awarding a qualification and further obtaining a certificate in the specialty.

Skills

1.In scientific research work: Developed skills: • create a research plan, develop work goals, hypothesis and tasks; • find, select and analyze scientific literature, compile it; • apply research methods for data acquisition and perform data processing; • present the obtained results; • to design the research work technically, bibliographically and literary correctly, in accordance with existing requirements. Residency in the state test; • demonstrate the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for the award of the qualification and further obtaining a certificate in the specialty.

Competences

1.Created and strengthened competences in the development of scientific research work - formulating and solving complex issues; gather the obtained information, critically and analytically, systematically integrating the acquired knowledge, interpret the obtained results and define the conclusions. The professional competences required for obtaining a qualification in a specialty and further obtaining a certificate in a specialty are theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Independently, in cooperation with the supervisor of the scientific work, the resident's research work is developed in accordance with the requirements specified in the procedure for the development and defense of the resident's research work at RSF. Independent preparation for taking the Residency state exam.

The evaluation of the scientific research work in accordance with the procedure set out in the Regulations for the Development of Scientific Research Work is carried out by the state examination committee of the Residency of the relevant specialty, taking into account the course of defending the work, the reviewer's review and the supervisor's assessment of the bachelor's work and cooperation with the student. The examination of knowledge, skills and competences in the Residency State Examination is carried out in accordance with the regulations of the Residency State Examination of the Riga Stradiņa University Faculty of Residency Studies in the accredited second-level professional higher education study program "Residency in Medicine". Final exam: defense of the scientific research work and Residency state exam. The duration of the study course is 6 weeks: ZPD development - 2 weeks, RVP preparation - 4 weeks.
