About Study Course

Objective

Provide students with basic knowledge and practical skills in patient examination and assessment of health status by developing the skills to acquire a history, perform objective examination of the patient’s general and systems, and identify the main signs of health disorders in patients of different ages.

Preliminary Knowledge

Knowledge

    • of basic biology at the level of secondary education.
    • Basic knowledge of the structure and functions of the human organism, which are acquired in study courses in anatomy and physiology.

Skills

    • were able to use medical terminology at the basic level.
    • Ability to analyse study materials and use study literature in independent work

ability

    • to use knowledge acquired in parallel studies in anatomy and physiology within the meaning of patient examination methods.
    • Preparedness to develop professional communication and clinical observation skills with the patient

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.After completion of the study course, the student shall: - explain the principles of the patient examination and the sequence of the examination; - describe the subjective and objective examination methods of the patient; - describe the basic principles of clinical examination of different organ systems; - explains the special features of examining children and pregnant women.

Skills

1.After completion of the study course, the student shall be able to: - acquire and structure the patient’s history - use basic patient examination methods (inspection, palpation, percussion, auscultation) - conduct an examination of the patient’s general and systems; - document and interpret the results of the investigation.

Competences

1.After completion of the study course, the student shall be able to: - integrate anatomy and physiology knowledge into patient examination; - communicate professionally with the patient during the examination process; - assess patient health changes in patients of different ages.

To get acquainted with the recommended and suggested reading for each class. Taking anamnesis and preparing and presenting the examination method. Practical work on models.

Preparation for intermediate examinations and exams

Repetition and systemisation of study materials, lecture reports and study literature, strengthening knowledge of principles of patient examination, acquisition of a history, methods of objective examination and evaluation of various organ systems.

Preparing for practice

Acquisition of study literature and study materials prior to practical classes in order to strengthen knowledge of patient examination methods, acquisition of a history and basic principles for evaluation of different organ systems.

During seminars, students analyse clinical examples, discuss patient examination methods and assessment of health status, and present the results of independent work.

Multi-answer question tests – written tests with multiple choice of answers for the examination of knowledge acquired in the study course.

Testing practical skills

Test

During the examination of practical skills, the ability of the student to apply basic methods of examination of the patient, acquire a history, perform objective examination of the general and systems of the patient, and correctly interpret the results of the examination.

4.

Final exam

50.00% from total grade
10 points

At the end of the study course, the student shall take a final examination in which knowledge and skills regarding the principles of the examination of the patient, the acquisition of a history, methods of objective examination and evaluation of various organ systems are assessed. The examination covers all topics acquired in the study course. Description available in e - studies.
