About Study Course

Objective

Develop and improve oral and written Latvian language skills for communication in situations related to studies, sports, training and competition process

Preliminary Knowledge

Latvian language knowledge, skills and abilities acquired in st. in the course "Professional communication I, II, III" (Latvian for foreign students)

Knowledge

1.The student is able to understand individual words, statements, sentences in clear speech about studies, sports and health.

Skills

1.The student is able to give simple oral information about his sport, studies, health, using the learned vocabulary.

1.The student is able to read and understand informative texts; form questions and answer them.

knowledge and skills in lexicon and grammar are evaluated with tests; the test consists of various tasks, for each task the student receives a certain number of points. The following types of tasks are optionally included in the test: a) task: correct placement of a word or expression in a sentence - 5 p. (for each correct insertion – 0.5 p.); b) task: write a synonym or antonym - 5 p. (for each correct option – 0.5 p.); c) task: choosing the correct word or statement variant - 5 p. (for each correct choice – 1 p.); d) task: answer the questions - 10 p. (for each complete, correct answer – 1 p.); • independent work is evaluated with presentations; Presentation evaluation criteria: a) speech: 2 points - speaks freely; 1 p. – reads and speaks; b) language: 2 p. – rich language; 1 p. – language with gaps; c) content: 2p. – extensive, interesting information; 1 p. – incomplete information; d) visual presentation: 2 p. correctly formed; 1 p. – with imperfections; e) additional materials: 2 p. - various appropriate additional materials; 1 p. – video materials only. Total maximum number of points - 10 points.

For completing the study course, the student receives a differentiated assessment based on a 10-point scale. In order to receive a positive evaluation for the study course, the total evaluation must correspond to at least 4 points. The student receives an evaluation in points by summing up the set number of points, evaluating knowledge, skills and competences in the performance of individual tasks, as well as attitude and individual dynamics. The student can receive 10 points for additional individual work outside the program, showing excellent Latvian language skills.
