About Study Course
Objective
To teach the future doctors scientifically based knowledge and skills in the field of occupational health care, including the impact of harmful factors of the working environment on health, the recognition of occupational diseases and work-related diseases, their etiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, planning of examination and further care, as well as the application of principles of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation within their competence.
Preliminary Knowledge
Basic knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, physics, microbiology, environmental health, physiology, clinical propedeutics, internal diseases and neurology. Before taking the course, the student is already able to explain the basic functions of organ systems and the basic mechanisms of disease development, to collect a general anamnesis, to recognize the most common symptoms and to interpret the results of basic clinical examinations.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.The student is able to explain the aims, principles and tasks of occupational medicine and occupational health, as well as the role of the family doctor, occupational physician and occupational health team.
2.The student is able to describe the impact of physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic (mechanical) and psychosocial occupational risk factors on the health of workers, their mechanism of action and the importance of exposure intensity to these factors in the development of diseases.
Individual work
3.The student is able to explain the etiology, pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of the most common occupational diseases and work-related diseases, linking them to work environment risk factors.
Individual work • Test on occupational diseases of the respiratory system • Test on occupational diseases caused by chemical agents
4.The student can explain the principles of diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of the most common occupational diseases.
Test on occupational diseases caused by chemical agents • Final exam for the course
5.The student knows and can explain the legal and ethical principles of occupational health protection, mandatory health examinations, investigation of occupational diseases and evaluation of work capacity.
Skills
1.Collects and documents a structured occupational history, including employment history, exposures, protective measures, and symptom association with work.
Skill demonstration
2.Finds and critically evaluates literature and regulatory sources, as well as interprets workplace exposure and health examination data in the given situation.
3.Demonstrates the performance of a cold test and a vibration sensation test according to the skills catalogue algorithm and interprets the results in the context of vibration-induced disorder diagnosis.
Skill demonstration
4.Demonstrates reporting of a biological risk incident in healthcare and develops a reasoned plan for further action.
Skill demonstration
5.Prepares a plan for mandatory health examinations for the given work environment risk profile, justifying the necessary examinations and specialist consultations.
Skill demonstration
Competences
1.Evaluates a possible occupational or work-related disease in a clinical case, justifying the link with exposure and considering alternative causes of the disease.
Final exam for the course
2.Develops prioritised workplace risk reduction and occupational disease prevention measures in the given situation, taking into account the impact on the patient, other employees and safety at work, society and the environment, and respecting the hierarchy of risk control and ergonomics principles.
Final exam for the course
3.Justifies the plan for examination, referral, treatment, rehabilitation and return to work of the patient according to the clinical situation and within the limits of his/her competence.
Final exam for the course
4.Provides reasoned advice to the patient and the occupational health team on safe work and health protection, respecting the patient’s rights, confidentiality and applicable regulations.
