About Study Course

Objective

To improve knowledge and skills in the qualification of criminal offenses. To develop the ability to find and interpret reference aids (doctrine, case law and legal norms) of criminal and criminal procedure law. To provide an opportunity to acquire knowledge about current issues in criminal law and criminal procedure law.

Preliminary Knowledge

Criminal law and criminal process law according to the Bachelor’s level.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students of the Master’s study programme are able to demonstrate in-depth and expanded knowledge and understanding, some of which are in line with the recent findings in the criminal law sub-field of law and the professional field and which provide the basis for creative thinking or research, including working at a point of intersection of different fields. Students gain the latest insights into the current legal framework in criminal law and the qualification of criminal offenses. Students understand the place and role of criminal procedure law in the public law system and are able to use the terminology of criminal procedure terminology in a correct manner. Students are able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the steps for carrying out various procedural activities.

Skills

1.Students of the Master’s study programme are able to reasonably explain and discuss complicated or systemic aspects of the respective scientific discipline or professional area with professionals and non-professionals. Students repeat the methodology of qualification of criminal offenses. Students of the Master’s study programme are able to independently use the theory of criminal law and criminal procedure law, methods of interpretation of legal provisions and problem solving skills in order to conduct research work and highly qualified professional functions. Students are able to analyse, synthesise and evaluate the place and role of criminal procedure law, to develop scientific research skills, able to use specialised problem solving skills.

Competences

1.Students of the Master’s study programme are able to independently formulate and critically analyse complicated scientific and professional problems in criminal law, to substantiate decisions, and to conduct additional analysis, when needed. Students are able to qualify cases correctly. Students are able to use specialised problem solving skills, apply knowledge and skills in academic and personal development. Students are able to apply legal norms independently (in criminal law and other fields) not only “mechanically”, but in accordance with the public interest and priorities, thus synthesizing the skills to work with the legislative base and understanding of law in general. In addition to providing formal solutions to the issues in the field of criminal law, they provide solutions that serve the needs and priorities of the public (local community) and improve public administration as a whole.

Master's student 1) must submit practical work before the lesson (not assessed with a mark); 2) all homework must be completed (passed / failed). 3) Must pass an examination, the mark of which consists of an assessment in the field of both criminal law and criminal procedure law. Knowledge will be assessed using a 10-point grading scale.
