About Study Course

Objective

To promote mastering of students’ cognitive methods, to learn the principles of “Fair Play” as a basic requirement of sports ethics, to develop experience of creative activity, to promote the development of students’ autonomy in solving research tasks. To provide knowledge and skills to work in a multicultural environment.

1.1. Illustrates the concept of “Fair Play” by examples from the chosen athletic discipline. 2. Multiculturalism and multicultural education. 3. Basic principles of the Olympic movement, the achievements of Latvian athletes at the Olympic games.

Skills

1.4. Knows how to prepare tasks for children and young people of different ages on matters of the Olympic movement.

Competences

1.5. Understands the concept of “Fair Play”, can interpret, debate and argue.

After studying literary sources on the given topic, to summarise materials, develop and present creative tasks for children and young people of a certain age. To develop a reasoned essay on the topic: Olympic principle – fair play in both sport and life. Examination for the study course. Students write and present their independent work or group work (as instructed by the lecturers) on topics: Sport abroad nowadays. To analyse the achievements of the most popular sports in a particular country, with particular emphasis on the country, region, culture and religion. The lecturer in the study group specifies the continent from which the student has to choose a country (e.g. from Europe – 5 students, from Asia – 10, from America (North/South America) – 5, Australia – 5, Africa – 5. Games, sports of various peoples, ethnic groups. Those should be used, which can be used in the selected athletic discipline, professional qualification.

Assessment criteria of learning outcomes: 1. Purposeful activity in seminars and practical classes – 30% 2. Independent work performed by the student when preparing for practical management of study activities and other examinations – 50% 3. Tests of acquired knowledge and skills – 20%
