About Study Course

Objective

To acquire additional knowledge in the area of clinical toxicology including common drug intoxication and poisoning scenarios. To promote improvement of knowledge for the provision of emergency medical care at the hospital stage in situations related to the most common illnesses and acute conditions caused by injuries. To provide guidance on research design, preparation, analysis and requirements for submission of scientific articles to high quality peer-reviewed journals.

Preliminary Knowledge

Knowledge gained in the courses studied in previous years related to clinical pharmacology, pathological physiology, clinical laboratory examinations, first aid during patient’s primary and secondary investigation on the site of accident, basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic elements of shock is needed.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Upon completion of the study course, students will acquire additional knowledge in clinical toxicology as well as in common emergency medicine situations. The student will recognise common life-threatening and urgent clinical presentations, understand pathophysiological principles and know the principles of emergency management.

Skills

1.Will be able to undertake risk assessment of acute toxicological and symptom-based presentations in the emergency department, including assessment of severity, appropriate therapies and disposition.

Competences

1.Develop skills in the recognition, diagnosis and management of acute intoxications and urgent clinical conditions presenting in the emergency department. Understand the principles of patient-centred care and be aware of condition-specific disposition decision making.
