About Study Course

Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in emergency situations and intensive care for patients with congenital and acquired heart pathologies according to the requirements of the paediatric cardiology speciality regulations to prepare doctors for certification in the speciality of paediatric cardiology according to regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.In the study programme, one should acquire detailed theoretical knowledge about emergency situations, resuscitation measures and principles of treatment for children with congenital and acquired cardiac pathologies and heart rhythm disorders. One should learn the indications and possibilities of conservative treatment; learn the examination and diagnostic methods, instruments and equipment used in intensive therapy.

Skills

1.As a result of completing the study programme, understands the principles of examination, assessment, care and treatment of patients with cardiac problems. Has practical skills in objective examination of intensive care and emergency care unit patients with cardiac pathologies. As a result of completing the study programme, is able to independently, using the acquired knowledge and modern technologies, perform care and treatment of a cardiology patient in emergency situations and in the intensive care unit for children of different ages with cardiac pathologies.
