About Study Course

Objective

To learn the principles of oral surgery radiology diagnostics and conservative and surgical treatment in depth. Learn surgical treatment of complicated tooth extractions, cysts, benign jaw tumors, osteomyelitis, osteonecrosis, and oroantral communication. Gain competence in oral surgery.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Identifies and is able to explain found deviations from normal anatomy and physiology in extra- and intraoral structures. Able to explain possible pathogenesis. Able to classify pathology and choose treatment according to the competence of oral surgery. Knows emergency equipment and knows how to use it in practice.

Skills

1.Recognizes and knows how to differentiate the clinical picture of the spread of infection, systemic sepsis. Assesses the respiratory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems. In case of local infection, he can perform i/o incision, in case of abscess or phlegmon, perform e/o incision and drainage of pus. Able to assess the patient's general condition, to prepare the patient for surgery, consulting with other specialists. Able to develop an operation plan, including tooth extraction, and backup plans also in case of oroantral communication.

Competences

1.Can work independently in oral surgery.

Assessment

Individual work

Title
% from total grade
Grade
1.

Individual work

-
-
Perform general and local examinations of patients in the ambulatory surgery department. Analyze the anamnesis, physical and radiological findings and purposefully prescribe auxiliary methods, interpret the obtained data. To justify the indications of surgical treatment, relative contraindications, and necessity of treatment. Carry out surgical treatment according to the established diagnosis. Prepare and present clinical cases on various diagnoses (5-10). Analysis and interpretation of current literature.

Examination

Title
% from total grade
Grade
1.

Examination

-
-
Test of knowledge in the form of a discussion throughout the cycle, and the presentation of clinical cases at the end of a seminar. Analysis of scientific articles.
2.

Examination

-
-
Summary evaluation - activity in seminars and clinical work (a total of at least 100 dentoalveolar operations/manipulations must be performed during and outside of the course), presentation of clinical cases, and analysis of articles.
