About Study Course

Objective

The course is intended for medical residents to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as practical skills, on chronic and acute cardiovascular pathologies in children (aetiology, pathology, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment methods), with special emphasis on congenital heart diseases.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- insight into the most common chronic and acute cardiovascular diseases in paediatrics: aetiology, pathology, clinical symptoms, - an idea of a treatment plan, the specifics of non-drug and drug treatment of cardiovascular diseases in children, - an idea of the indications for the use of invasive and surgical treatment methods and the essence of these methods, - diagnostic methods of heart diseases in paediatrics, - an idea of the basics and specifics of paediatric echocardiography, - an insight into the physiology of the foetal circulatory system and changes therein after birth, - an idea of the aetiology of congenital heart diseases, changes in the anatomy of the heart and blood vessels during development, - the most common genetic syndromes in paediatric cardiology, - knowledge of the anatomy of the heart, veins and large blood vessels, the most common congenital malformations and principles of the nomenclature thereof, - an idea of the pathological physiology, natural course and complications of the most common congenital heart diseases, - an idea of the pathological physiology of palliative and corrective cardiovascular surgery, as well as invasive treatment methods, the natural course of the disease thereafter and complications, - clinical symptoms and complications of congenital heart diseases.

Skills

1.- to formulate the primary clinical diagnosis based on clinical and physical examination data in paediatric cardiology, - skills to draw up an examination plan for children with suspected heart pathology.

Competences

1.- The ability to interpret the anamnesis of heart diseases until adulthood, the meaning of the finding and apply it to the specific clinical situation and the overall examination process.

Compulsory (100%) performance of practical work. The work not done on time must be submitted later. Attendance of seminars and lectures (at least 75%) on the subject of the course. Form of course examination: an oral exam in the form of a discussion.
