About Study Course

Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of sports medicine according to the requirements of sport medicine physicians’ specialty.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Knowledge of the basic issues of sports medicine on the types of physical load, trainings and competition regime planning principles, physical abilities, preventive medical examinations of athletes, requirements for medical and pedagogical observations and hygiene requirements for sports facilities and halls.

Skills

1.Ability to assess physical activity of a patient, physical abilities in children and adults and recommend the most suitable sports and protective equipment to a patient, possibilities to examine, assess and prepare a treatment plan for patients of different clinical fields, to select, use and interpret the obtained data reasonably by applying different examination and functional assessment methods used in internal medicine and sports medicine and ability to apply general intensive therapy principles.

To improve theoretical knowledge and practical skills in patient assessment and control, application of medical technologies, diagnostics and medical manipulations in sports medicine under supervision of qualified specialists. Theoretical knowledge is acquired in 7 seminars and individual literature studies. During practical classes students control patients under the supervision of a physician eligible to provide such training, participate in examination and treatment of a patient by mastering patient examination, as well as diagnostics and medical manipulations. A medical resident acquires different diagnostic methods and manipulations to be made in the field of sports medicine which are also applied in sports medicine physician’s practice.

At the end of the study course the head of the residency programme evaluates the acquired theoretical knowledge in written and oral form. The written test shall be assessed according to the 10-point grading system.
