About Study Course

Objective

To ensure the acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in donor management and transplantation coordination, in accordance with the requirements of the regulations of the specialty of transplantology, in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the specialty of transplantologist, in accordance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Resident acquires basic knowledge and competence on the management of deceased donors, legitimate and ethical aspects of the donor process, documentation, transplantation coordination, allocation of donor organs.

Skills

1.The resident will be able to carry out organ donor selection, management, preparation for organ procurement, coordinate the work of the donor team, organize the work of further transplantation (transportation of the organ to the transplant center, selection of recipients).

Competences

1.Organization of transplantation coordination while working with deceased and living donors, ensuring maximum quality in organ transplantation.

Detailed theoretical knowledge of the following organization of transplantology: legislative and ethical aspects in transplantation, principles of organ allocation, types of deceased donors, donor management, transplantation coordination and its role in the acquisition of donor organs, immunological determination of the donor / recipient pair (ABO match, HLA match, cross-match, etc.) and non-immunological (organ size, recipient weight, age, etc.) basics, transplant combinations and their role in improving transplant outcomes, organ exchange, organ and tissue preservation, ischemia, cell biochemistry and physiology during ischemia and preservation, preservation with hypothermia, organ and tissue preservation solutions, properties of preservation of various organs, complications of reperfusion in cases of organ preservation. Must learn practical skills in donor management and maintenance in the pre-operative period and during the procurement. Must be able to ensure high-quality procurement of donor organs from various types of deceased donors in compliance with legislative, ethical and quality control requirements.

Teacher evaluates the practical skills in a 10-point system, recording it in the resident's book. The test of theoretical knowledge is conducted in writing and is graded in a 10-point system.
