About Study Course
Objective
To introduce and provide a basic understanding of internal medicine by analysing the history, physical examination findings and the role and results of laboratory and radiological investigations. To introduce common internal diseases and the role of nutrition in its treatment.
Preliminary Knowledge
Normal anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Will know: Aspects of medical history, principles of physical examination. Will be able to recognize the basics of internal diseases: COPD, pneumonia, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, lung cancer, coronary heart disease (incl. acute coronary syndrome), chronic heart failure, arterial hypertension, gastric and duodenal ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, urinary tract infection, chronic kidney disease, osteoarthritis, crystal arthropathy, rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis, key findings on systemic connective tissue diseases and vasculitis.
Skills
1.To make a diagnosis, differentiate between different internal diseases, justify own opinion. Decide whether a patient needs to consult another specialist. Provide assistance in the area of own competence, including treatment.
Competences
1.Differentiate between various internal diseases, argue own point of view. Decide whether the patient needs to consult another specialist. Provide assistance in own area of expertise, including medication.

Individual work with medical literature. Clinical case analysis (communication with patients, history taking, physical examination, working diagnosis, diagnostic and therapeutic principles). Active participation in discussions on theoretical issues (knowledge prior to the seminar) and clinical cases. In order to evaluate the overall quality of the course, the student must fill in the course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal, which is anonymous.
