About Study Course

Objective

Acquaint students with the basics of personal data protection. Promote students’ ability to independently analyse personal data protection issues while explaining the theoretical basis of personal data protection, focusing on the current issues of personal data protection.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students will have acquired basic knowledge for further studies of personal data and data protection. They will have knowledge of the most important personal data protection matters, will be able to identify and solve problems of practical nature related to personal data protection issues. They will understand the most important concepts and terms of personal data protection that will help in formation of legal thinking. The knowledge gained will become the basis for further law studies and for use in practice.

Skills

1.• Ability to analyse, synthesize and evaluate the place and role of personal data protection rights in professional work, to develop scientific-research skills. • Communication skills – to communicate with other students of the law study programme about physical data protection problems, demonstrate social skills and emotional intelligence. • Guidance for further learning skills – to continuously structure own studies, analyse level of own knowledge and efficiently broaden it, select and evaluate literature sources. Identify and define problems, find causation, i.e. the ‘root’ of the problem and offer constructive solutions for the problem. • Other general skills – to take responsibility for their decisions and actions, take highly evaluated decisions and find solutions in unexpected and changeable circumstances, adapt to new situations and be open to changes, take leadership and initiative and take the responsibility for the consequences, respect ethical norms, demonstrate wide general knowledge and competence. Improve the ability to listen to diverse opinions.

Competences

1.The ability to perform specific tasks related to personal data protection, capability to use knowledge and skills in professional and personal development. Application of the law (individual data protection field and other sectors) not only "mechanically" but according to the interests and priorities of the society, thus developing the skills in working with legislation and understanding law in general. Ability to offer not only formal solutions in the field of personal data protection, but to find solutions that would serve the needs and priorities of the community (local community), as well as would improve the public administration in general.

The final assessment is determined according to the obtained assessment by stages.
