About Study Course

Objective

Within the scope of the course students get an insight into basics and professional use of digital photography. The knowledge obtained during the course will deepen understanding about digital photography in the context of actualities in the field of communication. Within the scope of the course students are familiarised with approaches to acquisition and post-processing of digital images, the most important turns in the development of digital photography, contemporary technological and conceptual actualities in reproduction of photographs in the printed environment and on the screen.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.After mastering the course students: • Understand, autonomously analyse and select according to their creative ideas formats of image files (RAW, JPG, TIFF). • Know basics of file resolutions, differences in colour spaces and importance and use of colour profiles in digital display. • Know basics of photography.

Skills

1.After mastering the course students: • Are able to make photos according to the concept of the photo project. • Are able to select a technological solution according to the concept of the photo project.

Competences

1.After mastering the course students: • Are able to make photos and use automated and manual control programmes of a camera. • Independently use basic tools in programmes from the Adobe group for post-processing of images. Understand basics of colour, contract and colour saturation compensation. • Are able to format images for different printing (chromogenic printing, offset, lambda and lightjet) and screen environments. Are able to select and competently lead photograph presentation and exposition processes.

During the semester the student reads recommended readings and internet sources. Students should share existing and obtained knowledge among themselves during lectures, during discussions outside lectures, thus developing their own and joint knowledge about photography media.
