About Study Course

Objective

To provide students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge of psychiatric disorders and psychoactive substance misuse; prevalence, causes, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, care and research-based rehabilitation.

Preliminary Knowledge

Anatomy, Physiology, Psychology, Neurology, Pharmacology, Medical Ethics, Public Health, Patient Care, Rehabilitation.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students: • recognise psychiatric disorders, SUD and define them according to the ICD-10; • analyse and systematise the patient’s medical history; describe medication used in psychiatry and addiction and their side effects; • explain and describe specific nature of communication and care of patients with mental disorders and substance use disorders.

Skills

1.Students are able to: • apply adapted communication style with patients having mental and substance use disorders; • assess the patient’s state of health; • collect the patient’s medical history and use the necessary data; • draw up a care plan on the basis of evidence-based practice.

Competences

1.Having acquired knowledge of mental disorders and substance use disorders and care of such patients, students will be able to: • differentiate between the mental disorders; • interpret and analyse patient's medical data; • successfully implement the care plan for patients with mental and substance use disorders.
