Knowledge
1.Students: • recognise psychiatric disorders, SUD and define them according to the ICD-10; • analyse and systematise the patient’s medical history; describe medication used in psychiatry and addiction and their side effects; • explain and describe specific nature of communication and care of patients with mental disorders and substance use disorders.
Skills
1.Students are able to: • apply adapted communication style with patients having mental and substance use disorders; • assess the patient’s state of health; • collect the patient’s medical history and use the necessary data; • draw up a care plan on the basis of evidence-based practice.
Competences
1.Having acquired knowledge of mental disorders and substance use disorders and care of such patients, students will be able to: • differentiate between the mental disorders; • interpret and analyse patient's medical data; • successfully implement the care plan for patients with mental and substance use disorders.

The concept of mental health and the history of the development of psychiatry. Promoting mental health and prevention of disorders.

Basic principles of communication with patients having mental health disorders. Compliance with the principles of ethics and importance of anti-discrimination in care of patients with mental health disorders.

Basic principles of the care process in mental health care. Nursing documentation and diagnoses in mental health care.

Addiction as a disease. Bio-psycho-social model of addiction. Alcohol addiction.

Drug addiction, types and symptoms. Various psychoactive substances.

Treatment of patients with substance use disorders (SUD). Co-dependency.

Personality disorders, their types. Neurotic, stress-related and somatoform disorders.

Mood disorders – mania and depression: causes, clinical symptoms, treatment, care, rehabilitation.

Perception disorders – schizophrenia: causes, clinical symptoms, treatment, care, rehabilitation.

Disorders of intellectual development: classification, causes, clinical symptoms, treatment, care and rehabilitation.

Epilepsy and related personality changes: classification of epileptic seizures, diagnosis, emergency aid.

Eating disorders – anorexia, bulimia: causes, clinical symptoms, treatment, care and rehabilitation.

Suicides, their characteristics, statistics, basic principles of care. Physical and medical limitations of patients: basic principles of care and documentations.

Laboratory indicators of substance use disorders (SUD). Tests for assessment of SUD, their analysis.

Researches of Lesch typology, different types of drug addictions, differences between gender.

Researches of Co-dependency.
