About Study Course

Objective

To develop general knowledge of psychology as a science and its main fields, profession of a psychologist and work ethics, historical development of psychology, research methods in psychology, basic principles of the nervous system, development of an individual and the role of heredity and environment in the development of the individual, mental processes, emotional states, motivational theories, personality theories, individual interaction and interaction within the group.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Defines psychology as science, its core tasks and its role in modern society.

2.Name and describe the main directions and sectors of modern psychology.

3.Compares concepts of different psychology schools, highlighting their key differences.

4.Explains concepts: psyche, psychic manifestations, psychiatric processes and states.

5.Identify and explain the main methods of studying psychology and their application.

6.Describe the structure of the nervous system and brain, as well as the biochemical processes associated with psychiatric processes.

7.Describes the role of heredity and the environment in the development of the individual.

8.Defines and explains concepts: consciousness, attention, perception, sensibilities, memory, language, thinking, intelligence.

9.Describes emotional processes, their influencing factors and relationship to cognitive processes.

10.Explains the concept of motivation and its effect on behaviour.

11.Analyses thinking processes and their relationship to memory and speech.

12.Describes individual development at different stages of life (childhood, adolescence, youth, adult age).

13.Defines the concept of temperament and describes its types.

14.Describes the behaviour of the individual in the social environment and the basic principles of group dynamics.

15.Describes the concept of the group, types of groups, structure and stages of development.

Skills

1.Able to analyse psychology directions and evaluate their application in different situations.

2.Able to recognise and describe individual typological characteristics of personality.

3.Able to identify and explain factors affecting the behaviour, decision-making and relationships of the individual and group.

4.Is able to apply basic concepts of psychology by analysing practical situations.

5.Able to interpret human behaviour based on knowledge of mental processes.

Competences

1.Is able to integrate psychology knowledge by explaining and analysing different psychic phenomena.

2.Is able to critically compare psychology directions by assessing their suitability for specific problem situations.

3.Is able to apply theoretical and methodological principles of psychology when analysing the behaviour of an individual and group in professional activities.

Actively participate in all classes, engage in discussions on a particular issue, problem, be able to justify and defend their views.

Teamwork presentation

35.00% from total grade
10 points

Students divide into groups according to the topic they choose, prepare and present a presentation in the lesson.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Understanding and theoretical justification of the subject (2 points) - a clear and precise explanation of the subject, references (APA) to scientific literature, appropriate terminology;
  • Presentation structure and logic (1 point) - presentation is clearly structured (introduction, basic part, conclusions, activity, self-reflection);
  • Presentation visibility and visual presentation (paragraph 1) - the information is clearly and intelligibly presented, the slides are uncongested with text, the visuals support the perception of content;
  • Presentation (1 point) - The presentation is presented in a free, convincing form, not by reading the text monotonously from the slides. Visible understanding and ability to interpret content in their own words;
  • Conclusions and critical analysis (paragraph 1) - The presentation contains clear, reasoned conclusions and a critical view of the topic covered, showing understanding and ability to analyse the information obtained.
  • Immersive 10 min activity (2 points) - a creative activity that conforms to the topic and engages courtiers.
  • Group collaboration, division and reflection (paragraph 1) - all members of the group participate equally, provide reflection on their contribution and cooperation within the group.
  • The timeline (1 point) - presentation (~ 20 min) and activity (~ 10 minutes) together last ~ 30 minutes.

The use of artificial intelligence when preparing solo works is only allowed as an aid to address technical and design issues, such as creating a presentation background template, choosing colour palettes, designing graphics. Artificial intelligence tools should not be used by a student to generate text, write an essay or write other permanent papers, and take exams and tests during them.

Assessments will be calculated in accordance with the interest limits laid down in RSU academic Regulations:

96% to 100% - with distinction (10);

85% to 95% excellent (9);

75% to 84% - very good (8);

70% to 74% - good (7);

65% to 69% - almost good (6);

60% to 64% satisfactory (5);

55% to 59% - almost satisfactory (4);

between 40% and 54% - weak (3);

20% to 39% - very weak (2);

0% to 19% - very, very weak (1).

Self-assessment tests

15.00% from total grade
10 points

Students perform the self-assessment test placed in the e-learning environment on the topic acquired in the lecture after the lecture.
