About Study Course

Objective

To ensure the acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, in accordance with laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia, in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the specialty of paediatric nephrologist.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Able to demonstrate knowledge of the pathophysiology of kidney and urinary tract diseases. Systematize the examination plan, recognize diseases of the urinary tract, based on clinical manifestations, laboratory, histological and radiological diagnosis, differential diagnosis, organize treatment at the hospital and pre-hospital stage.

Skills

1.To assess the risks of kidney damage; analyse histological preparations of kidneys and interpret the results; perform diagnostic and therapeutic manipulations necessary in the management of uronephrology patients; choose and perform appropriate renal replacement therapy for patients with impaired renal function.

Competences

1.Using knowledge about kidneys, kidney diseases, their origin, symptomatology, link to diseases of other organs, treatment, kidney replacement therapy, as well as the modern practical actions resulting from this knowledge for patients up to the age of 18, to carry out diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of the diseases in these patients.
