About Study Course

Objective

Manage, coordinate and implement human-centred care, participate in treatment for patients at different age stages, ensure the assessment of a patient’s overall health status and autonomously take decisions based on evidence-based knowledge of the conduct, observation and prevention of therapeutic interventions, evaluate indications, contraindications and side effects of action, provide quality care. Educate patients of different ages, nearest support systems, legal representatives on health preservation/improvement issues, taking into account individual needs and the current situation. Educate nurses, other health, social care teams, members of the education system, members of the public.

Preliminary Knowledge

Patient health assessment and diagnosis, provision and management of acute and chronic disease patient care, education, counselling and health promotion.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Student knows about the principles of the organisation of primary health care and basic tasks of extended competence nurse, diagnosis, evaluation of health condition, prescription of medicines and medical devices, disease prevention, care issues, taking into account the basic principles of health preservation, promotion.

2.Is familiar with the principles of therapeutic contact and professional ethics.

3.Understand the importance of the individual, family or legal representatives, the appropriate group, the community education process on health issues, medicines and disease prevention, use and evaluate the effectiveness of multifaceted teaching/learning strategies in the education process through educational/preventive measures

Skills

1.Implement evidence-based and critical thinking approach-based healthcare, develop and ensure therapeutic communication with patients/clients and their affiliates.

2.Able to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment, respecting the principles of intercultural communication. Principles of professional ethics and principles of patient rights shall be applied in the action; quality assurance and improvement measures in care work shall be evaluated.

3.Able to independently ensure the assessment of a patient’s overall state of health, taking into account the biopsychosocial model and deciding to perform therapeutic interventions

4.Implement preventive measures, be able to prescribe and prescribe medicinal products and medical devices in the specific clinical situation, comply with the requirements of regulatory enactments.

5.Tailor-made care plans shall be developed and implemented taking into account the needs and resources of patients

6.Plan and implement patient, support, community, group, community education, advice on health issues, medicines and disease prevention through versatile teaching/learning strategies and evaluate the effectiveness of the process.

Preparation of a Placement report

The practice report shall include:

  1. The implementation of the programme;
  2. The presentation of the documentation in accordance with the methodological instructions;
  3. Clinical cases submitted (3);
  4. Implemented educational measures (3); 5 consultations, drawing up one educational material;
  5. A supervision that promotes the student’s professional development and supports reflection on practical experience attendance.

Preparation, analysis and reflective reporting of clinical cases

Preparation of clinical cases (3) - assessing and describing the health status and care needs of a patient in primary healthcare, preparing the development of an individualised care plan and its practical implementation. The development of plans is based on the application of evidence-based care strategies and assessment of the effectiveness of care, recommendations.

Clinical case content:

  1. Clinical case description showing data on clinical manifestations of the patient’s existing state of health, brief history of the patient’s condition (life, disease, social).
  2. Aetiology of morbidity, pathogenesis, clinical case is analysed in the context of laws and regulations in LV, statistical information, clinical guidelines, evidence-based Nursing practice using research methodology and terminology.
  3. Describe the possible use of Diagnostiko devices, invasive/non-invasive medical devices, validated tests to assess health status and the results obtained.
  4. The challenges and objectives identified in the context of the clinical situation, linked to existing and potential diagnoses of nurses (NANDA),
  5. describe measures for the implementation of the care process.
  6. Further coordination of action shall be updated by evaluating potential risks in improving, stabilising the patient’s health status.
  7. Establish a patient/support system education plan, evaluate prevention measures to improve patient health status.
  8. Creates a case epicrice (summary).
  9. Bibliography used.
3.

Conducting of educational/preventive events based on scientific knowledge, consultancy examinations, development of educational material

Educational measures shall be implemented in health institutions/centres, social structures, educational institutions - patients, participants in the support system, community group, community, other professionals:

  1. Develop an action plan and carry out one educational seminar for patients, support system participants, community group, community.
  2. Develop an action plan and implement one multidisciplinary cooperation project/health day for the community group, the community.
  3. Develop an action plan and implement one non-formal education measure for health/social care/education staff.
  4. Provide at least 5 consultative (1:1) examination periods on diseases, their symptoms, treatment options and prevention measures and methods (including vaccination, screening) with a person-centred approach.
  5. One educational, visible, individual/patient-speaking material shall be developed according to the needs and objectives of the patient/society, improvement of health literacy.

Defence of the practice (Reflective report on clinical case and educational work, development of educational material)

During the placement, the student develops three different clinical case care situations/plans. Clinical case care situations/plans shall be submitted to e-studies.

During the placement, the student realizes educational/preventive measures that are current to the cases, justified in scientific research, and development of educational materials. Materials shall be submitted to e-studies.

Defence of the placement is assessed cumulatively according to the evaluation criteria developed:

1. Obtained benchmarks for documentation and attendance – 20%

2. Criteria points obtained for the clinical situation – 40%

3. Obtained benchmarks for public education – 40%.

Evaluation, in accordance with RSU academic Regulations, in a 10-ball system.
