About Study Course

Objective

To provide students with knowledge in clinical areas – pathophysiology of diseases, clinical manifestations of endocrine diseases, evaluation of examinations, basic methods of treatment and pharmacotherapy options for endocrine system diseases. The study module comprises an integrated training cycle in which the student is gradually introduced to the pathological physiology of a group of diseases, clinical pharmacology, clinical manifestations, examination possibilities, interpretation of examination data, principles of treatment and pharmacotherapy possibilities.

Preliminary Knowledge

Human anatomy, physiology and pathology, medical biochemistry, pharmacology.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of successfully completing the course, the student will have knowledge of the following: • the causes of endocrine diseases; • the most common clinical manifestations and complications of endocrine diseases; • endocrine system examination methods, possibilities for the use thereof; • basic types of treatment of endocrine diseases; • principles and possibilities of the endocrine system pharmacotherapy.

Skills

1.The student will be able: • to evaluate and interpret the results of endocrine system examinations; • to assess the pharmacotherapy of pathologies of the endocrine system.

Competences

1.The student will be able: • in collaboration with the medical practitioners, to determine a pharmacotherapy plan for an individual patient with an endocrine system disease; • to assess the advantages and disadvantages of pharmacotherapy methods in relation to the patient’s examination data; • to monitor the progress of pharmacotherapy, predict side effect and plan the prevention thereof, and provide the necessary information to other medical specialists.
