About Study Course

Objective

To prepare students for work in health care in physiological and pathological obstetrics.

Preliminary Knowledge

Pathological and operative obstetrics; Medical emergency; Anesthesiology and resuscitation in obstetrics; Physiological childbirth and postnatal care (Postpartum management); The care process in midwifery practice; Clinical pharmacology and obstetric care; Clinical care in obstetrics and gynecology; Management of physiological pregnancies; Newborn feeding and lactation; Interpersonal communication in healthcare; General care; Infection control in care; Propaedeutics; Basics of clinical care.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Student will be to take and manage physiological births, able to describe the possible complications during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period, will know how to treat them. Student is able to evaluate the newborn, to provide "skin to skin" contact, promotes parental participation in newborn care. outline the possible complications of newborns and the actions to be taken to prevent them.

Skills

1.Student will be able to collect the relevant information and provide the performance of laboratory tests to be carried out under doctor’s supervision and the most appropriate treatment to prevent complications, will be able to inform patients about the pharmacological potency of each medication, instructions of its use, provide psycho-emotional support to women and their family in the event of complications. Along with a gynecologist/obstetrician composes a complex childbirth management and care plan, by informing the woman in labour and involving her in decision-making.

Competences

1.Using the acquired knowledge about the process of a pathological pregnancy and childbirth, student is able to differentiate between physiological - guide it - and pathological childbirth process, analyse the obtained medical examination data.

100% attendance, duly completed and timely submitted documentation in e-studies, two successfully passed tests in MITC and internship defense (makes up 50% of the final grade), assessment of the internship manager (makes up 50% of the final grade). Students' active participation in classes will be evaluated (during remote classes, those classes are counted, during which the student is visible on camera and actively participates in class activities).
