About Study Course

Objective

The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the development of European integration, the institutional structure of the European Union (EU), and its decision-making processes, as well as the formation, operational principles, and current developments of the European Union’s foreign and security policy. The course helps students understand the roles and interactions of different actors (EU institutions, member states, civil society, and other stakeholders) in shaping European integration and EU foreign policy, and introduces the main theoretical approaches and research perspectives used in the analysis of European integration and EU foreign policy.

Preliminary Knowledge

The course is intended for bachelor’s level students and aims to develop their understanding of the European Union, its historical development, and its foreign policy. Successful completion of the course requires students to have basic knowledge of the development of the international system, the fundamental concepts of international relations, as well as a general understanding of the institutional structure of the European Union and its main policy areas.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Upon completion of the course, students acquire knowledge of the historical development of European integration, its causes, and its main stages of development, as well as of the institutional structure of the European Union and its decision-making processes. Students are familiar with the development of the European Union’s foreign and security policy, its main instruments and operational principles, and understand the role of different actors (EU institutions, member states, civil society, and other stakeholders) in shaping European integration and foreign policy. Students also gain an understanding of the main theoretical approaches used in the analysis of European integration and EU foreign policy.

Skills

1.Upon completion of the course, students are able to identify and analyse the processes of policy-making and decision-making in the European Union, assess the role of different institutions and member states in these processes, and analyse the development of EU foreign policy and current international events. Students are able to critically evaluate EU policy documents, strategies, and decisions, as well as to provide reasoned analyses of the development trends and challenges of European integration.

Competences

1.Upon completion of the course, students are able to independently analyse and discuss the development of the European Union, its policy directions, and its role in the international system, as well as to assess and anticipate the development trends of EU foreign policy in different international situations. Students are able to apply the knowledge and analytical skills acquired in academic discussions and written work on European integration and the foreign policy of the European Union.
