About Study Course

Objective

To introduce students with mediation as one of the alternative options for resolving disagreements. To create an understanding of the mediation process, the mediator's role and work methods, the parties' opportunities provided by this process. To create awareness about the profession of mediator and the possibilities of the mediation process in Latvia. To introduce basic skills in resolving disagreements.

Preliminary Knowledge

General understanding of interpersonal communication. General understanding of judiciary and legal society.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Knows what mediation is, what are its stages and the content of the stages. Knows Knows and will be able to apply the types of conflicts, degrees of conflict escalation, typical behavior in conflict situations. Knows the basic principles of conducting negotiations and will be able to apply them in practice.

Skills

1.Able to analyze various conflict situations. Able to find solutions using mediation methods. Able to apply various negotiation and mediation methods.

Competences

1.The ability to analyze situations of disagreement and to evaluate which of the solutions are applicable and possible. The ability to evaluate which negotiation and mediation methods are appropriate in a specific situation.
