About Study Course

Objective

To ensure the acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the requirements of the specialty of a geriatrician and related to the specialty of traumatology and orthopaedics.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Changes in the musculoskeletal system with age. Common types of injuries in the elderly. Risks and their prevention. Possible orthopaedic aid for the elderly. Rehabilitation principles in the elderly after injuries.

Skills

1.Assessment of the functions of the musculoskeletal system of the geriatric patient. Assessment of the range of movement in joints. Clinical case analysis. Recognition of a possible injury. Referral to examinations, analysis of results, assistance organisation within the framework of their competence.

Competences

1.Able to analyse the clinical situation, as well as refer to the necessary additional examinations. Drawing up of a treatment plan in cooperation with a trauma specialist–orthopaedist and rehabilitation specialist.
