About Study Course
Objective
To improve clinical reasoning in pre-clinical studies. Apply conceptual practice models in the somatic medicine to raise awareness of the importance of theoretical knowledge and link with practice. Analyze occupational performance for patients/ clients with various somatic diseases in different praxis context and apply to a person-centered practice.
Preliminary Knowledge
Neurology, internal diseases, surgery, pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, conceptual practice models, environmental adaptation, ergonomics, ethics.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.The student will be able to recognize the most common neurological and internal diseases, explain the impact of somatic diseases on activities, identify and analyze problems of performing activities, define the occupational therapist's tactics in working with patients/clients, analyze and justify the standardized patient assessment tools used in the practice of the occupational therapist, justify and explain the selected therapy plan compilation and methods, explain and analyze the role of the occupational therapist, in case of somatic diseases, in different environmental contexts.
Skills
1.The student will be able to use professional terminology, measure and analyze occupational performance problems, to demonstrate practical skills in the patient's / client's evaluation of the use of surveillance techniques and standardized assessment tools, to make appropriate intervention plan, to demonstrate various technologies of occupational therapy, to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment, to document the clinical reasoning and treatment process, to analyze evidence based professional literature.
Competences
1.During the course the student will develop the skills to select and analyze information, collaborate, present and argue their viewpoint, to take responsibility and initiative, through the group work. Using the acquired knowledge and skills student will be able to identify occupational performance limitations, uses evidence-based practice according to occupational practice process guidelines.

Individual preparation for two literature seminars with a PP format presentation on the impact of stroke and spinal cord damage and other somatic diseases on a person's functioning in the context of occupational therapy. Analysis of two clinical cases, according to the topic, using a problem-oriented learning method, preparation of a presentation, work in groups. Interviewing, evaluation of a patient with cerebral blood flow disorders and a patient with a spinal cord injury, reflection of the therapy plan and appropriate therapy selection, preparation of the presentation - work in pairs. Analysis of a clinical case according to the topic of the study course - the student's independent work with individual assessment.
